It is believed that he was an illegitamate child since on his marriage certificate only his mother's name is mentioned and no maiden name was given for her. He was married to Katharina HOGGENMÜLLER on 19 Jan 1888 in Weil, Schwaizwald, Germany. Marriage certificate states: In front of the Registrar they appeared today for the reason of marriage 1. The unmarried locksmith, Franz Hermann Kastner. He is known in the town. He was born June 27,1858 in Markersdorf, Sachsen. He is living in Weil, son of the labourer Ernstina Kastner, mother, living in Markersdorf, Sachsen. 2. The unmarried maiden Katharina Huggenmüller, servant, she too is known. She was born on September 26,1863 in Weil and is living in Weil. She is the daughter of Hermann Hoggenmüller and Katharina Mehlin, living in Weil. The witnesses were present and appeared. 3. The unmarried farm labourer Theodor Mehlin, 29 years old and living in Weil. 4. The irrigation supervisor Jakob Winter, 55 years old and living in Basel. Katharina HOGGENMÜLLER was born on 26 Sep 1863 in Weil, Schwaizwald, Germany. In the spelling of Hoggenmüller, the u has two accent dots over it. According to Katharina's marriage certificate, her occupation was a servant. Children of Franz Hermann KÄSTNER and Katharina HOGGENMÜLLER were:

Lina was born on 20 Nov 1888 in Weil, Schwarzwald, Germany. She died in 1947 in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. She was buried in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. Surname spelling: Lina's birthcertificate has KAESTNER, Her parents marriage certificate has KÄSTNER. Note the two small dots above the Ä. The ae spelling is used when the a-Umlaut (accent mark) is not used. She was married to Edward (Eduard) EHRLER on 31 Oct 1911 in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. Edward (Eduard) EHRLER was born on 30 Sep 1884 in Thenigen, Baden, Germany. Born at 2:00 am. He died in 1967. He was buried in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada.
